This is off-topic for KOL, but...

I too spend the majority of my time with Linux, but I have yet to find anything as good and powerful as KOL for it - and Wine is usually not an option. I currently use FPC (+ Lazarus too sometimes). Can you recommend a better environment?

I also use almost exclusively Freepascal 2.7.1 (and Lazarus not very often) because I moved away from Windows for my work (serverside web applications + html5 and scripting, but also because the quality - and price -of the newer Delphi compilers isn't very good. There is a little support for linux in kol, but I do not the state of it and it relies on Kylix. There is also no real need for it, apart from convenience ;-) because of the good optimizations you can obtain with fpc and the gnu linker. Basically whole program optimization (WPO) does more or less the same what KOL does in sourcecode.
Then there's the problem which widgetset to choose....Qt4-5? Gnome? Or Custom drawn? Using OpenGL(es)/OpenVG? I have a widgetset made in EGL and openVG for the Raspberry Pi which is a bit KOL like... maybe I will release it when the mouse finally works properly... I also use KIOSK mode html5 a lot on mobile devices.

Thanks for your comments Thaddy. We both have similar views, positions and roles. Yes, FPC is great and much understated - especially the 2.7.1 trunk. Widgetset is always an issue, I am very curious to see your solution. Good to know that I haven't missed anything obvious - I am about to test some IDE's (MSEide+MSEgui and whatever else I can find). I still miss KOL+MCK though! Good suggestion about html5 kiosk mode, now on my to-do list.
